Gestatten… Robert Bloch
Robert Bloch ist einer der bekanntesten Vertreter der „Weird Fiction“ und hat als Autor von Romanen, Kurzgeschichten und Drehbüchern Weltruhm erlangt.
Robert Bloch wurde 1917 in Chicago als Sohn deutschstämmiger Eltern jüdischen Glaubens geboren. In seinen Teenagerjahren verschlang er regelmäßig die „Weird Tales“, ein legendäres Kurzgeschichtenmagazin, dessen (mittlerweile) bekanntester Autor ein Mann namens H.P. Lovecraft war. Der junge Bloch nahm mit Leserbriefen Kontakt zu seinem Idol auf – eine jahrelange Freundschaft folgte und dauerte an bis zu Lovecrafts frühem Tod im Jahre 1937. In diesen Jahren hatte Bloch massgeblich zu Lovecrafts „Cthulhu Mythos“ beigetragen und sich, durch seinen Mentor motiviert, als Autor einen Namen gemacht. Jahrzehnte später blickte Bloch auf einen beachtlichen Korpus einzigartiger Horror, Fantasy und Sci-Fi Geschichten zurück. Zum bereits erwähnten Weltruhm verhalf ihm natürlich sein Roman über einen gewissen Motelbesitzer und seine vereinnahmende Mutter, die ihr Haus niemals verliess. „Psycho“ wurde durch Alfred Hitchcocks Verfilmung zum Synonym für den Autor Bloch – der von sich selbst behauptete, er habe das Herz eines kleinen Jungen… es stehe in einem Einmachglas auf seinem Schreibtisch.
